Finding your own personal space can feel a little weird particularly if you have never taken the time to consider what are your non-negotiables, who you like to spend time with, or those people in your life that lift you or those who drain you. Yes, when we talk space we are not talking only about a physical place. Physical space may be a part of your own personal space but it is not a place alone. It is about energy, which makes you feel calm in control and gives you peace and joy. It might be sitting in a chair in the morning where the sun comes in and warms you up, or it could just having some quiet time whilst walking. For me personally, it is my need to have a cup of tea with my cat.
Find a time of day that works for you, what time of the day is best for you, when is the time of day you need a boost or to come back and feel centered. Is it first thing in the morning, is it just after lunch or before bed, or do you need a couple of times a day to nurture yourself and regroup. That’s ok there is no right or wrong this is your day to do what you need to do.
Create a playlist or meditation CD to help you relax and focus on the present moment
Choose music that will help you to relax or beautiful meditations that will guide you to a beautiful place of relaxation and healing.
Do you like essential oils, but the oil burner or diffuser on with your favorite oil.
Here are 5 essential oils that help with stress and anxiety that are perfect for creating a routine for relaxation:
- German Chamomile
- Rose Geranium
- Clary Sage
Practice breathing techniques are amazing for helping to calm and soothe, breathing is natural and has so many benefits, if you practice it regularly you will be amazed at how it benefits you. It is easy to learn and requires no financial resources. A really good way to start is to count 7 when breathing in and count 10 when breathing out, just practice this over and over again.
Try to include some form of movement into your daily routine. Movement is exceptionally important it helps reduce our stress hormone levels and this helps in many ways. Two forms of movement that I enjoy are walking, in fact, I no longer have a car and have not missed it because I am walking more and that is better for my health. If you do have a car try to park a distance away from your destination and walk the rest of the way. Another form of movement is YOGA. Yoga is amazing and I highly recommend it. With the advent of the internet and Youtube, you will be able to try some Yoga poses and work out which works for you. Awsome to do before going to be as it will help with sleep, you can include a meditation at the end for relaxation. Yoga classes are readily available in most communities and many are very affordable.
Lastly, create your routine, you can include some of these or create some of your own to include. Then practice your routine every single day without fail. Take the time for yourself, often we view taking time out for this as wasting time, however it is not. When we are centered and have improved clarity of thought we are more productive and we achieve more in our work and personal lives. Good luck and please share with me your success…
